Jamaica’s sixth annual Restaurant Week ends tomorrow, which means there’s still time to get out and enjoy some spectacular deals on some special, savory menu items. If you’re in Jamaica’s highly popular second city Montego Bay then you’re in luck. In addition to its magnificent beaches, colourful marine life and amazing scenery “Mobay” is also home to a number of excellent eateries featuring cuisines ranging from Jamaican to Irish and even Italian. The Houseboat Grill

Located on Southern Cross Boulevard just on the outskirts of Montego Bay, The Houseboat Grill is a unique dining experience combining intimacy and entertainment with a fabulous setting for a one of a kind dining experience. Moored in the calm waters of the Montego Bay Marine Park the restaurant is a converted houseboat, with tables inside, on the roof and around the decking. Meals can be enjoyed downstairs in their cozy dining room, upstairs on the upper deck under the stars, or waterside to be soothed by the sound of snook & tarpon occasionally splashing in the surrounding water. The HouseBoat Grill features a constantly evolving Caribbean fusion menu and promises an exquisite package for this year’s Restaurant Week.
On the list of appetizers you’ll find: Spicy Westmoreland Peel & Eat Pepper Shrimp with Scotch Bonnet Beurre Blanc as well as Panko Crusted Savoury Lobster Cake with Roasted Red Pepper Mayonnaise & Mini Mixed Greens Salad. For your main course you’ll have a choice of your own 1 lb (average weight) Live Lobster, Split & Flame Grilled with Brandy, White Wine, Garlic Butter, Warm Mini Garlic Baguette & Caesar Salad. Described as one of the best places to eat on the “Hip Strip” in Montego Bay Twisted Kilt is an Irish Pub (with an upscale twist) located on the waterfront next door to the Doctor’s Cave Beach. Serving up a mixture of Irish and local cuisines, the restaurant provides you with an option to dine indoors or outdoors so you can enjoy eating with the sea breeze on your face. If chicken is more your style then you might want to try the Jerked Chicken; Sweet wood smoked chicken marinated in the Chef’s authentic jerk spices with rice and peas and Mediterrean vegetables. A local and tourist favourite alike, The Pelican Restaurant on the “Hip Strip” is well known as one of Montego Bay’s best places to find mouthwatering Jamaican cuisine. Their menu features classic Jamaican specialties like steamed red snapper with okras and bammy, ackee and salted codfish with boiled green bananas, yam and fried johnny cakes. Jamaican Bobsled Café

Located on the “Hip Strip” across the road from Doctor’s Cave Beach, the Jamaican Bobsled Cafe is a bar and pizza restaurant dedicated to the famous Jamaica Bobsled team where guests can enjoy a contemporary menu of Caribbean cuisine. The walls of the restaurant are adorned with pictures and clippings of the Jamaican Bobsled Team and the original Olympic bobsled in on display in the Bobsled Cafe (you can even sit inside to pose for pictures).
The Cafe specialises in pizza, serving up giant New York style pizzas as well as Burgers, appetizers and other dishes. The bar serves a range of signature drinks, served in large glass jars. On Friday nights the cafe has “Jamaica’s longest Happy Hour” – from 7pm until midnight. For starters choose their specialty Sliders, Shrimp Quesadilla or Wings. On the main course you’ll have your choice of Jerk Chicken, Hawaiian, or Veggie Pizza or even Jamaican favourites like Curry Goat or Oxtail. Coconut Shrimp; plump juicy shrimp lightly battered & coated with coconut flakes then golden fried. Served with mango/ginger sauce. Grilled Fillet Steak; expertly perfectly grilled and served with onions, mushrooms & béarnaise butter. Served with mashed potato. Jerk Conch with Papaya; tender Caribbean conch, jerked & served with papaya slices. For dessert try Ms. Russ’ Carrot Cake; honey, rum & citrus grilled pineapple over ice cream. Or have a skewer of fresh pineapple chunks dipped in a citrus/honey/rum glaze, grilled & served over vanilla ice cream.
