Our favourite travel couple Calee and Stephen have come to the end of their Jamaican adventure (for now). For months we’ve watched them experience everything from climbing the cascading Dunn’s River Falls in Ocho Rios, to tubing on the White River, swimming with the dolphins at Dolphin Cove, parasailing at Cosmo’s Beach in Negril, touring the haunted rooms of the Rose Hall Great House in Montego Bay, riding in an aerial canopy tour and taking a bobsled coaster ride through a tropical rainforest at Mystic Mountain and so much more. Watch now, as they relive their amazing journey in the “Pon Di Road Recap”:
Don’t worry if you’ve missed out on any of the action, the entire season of “Pon Di Road” is still available for your viewing pleasure on our My Jamaica YouTube Channel and as a special treat we’ve decided to share with you the 10 most viewed webisodes of the season:
1 – Pon Di Road # 1- Of 400 year old Flat Bridges, Mangoes and Landmarks erected by “Obeah” men
Webisode # 1 saw the vibrant pair embarking on their islandwide adventure. A journey taking us across the famous 400 year old Flat Bridge and through the snakelike corners of Mount Rosser. Propelled by elements so colourfully Jamaican; wrought with superstition and even the sweet skin of a juicy East Indian mango. It’s no surprise that “Pon Di Road # 1- Of 400 year old Flat Bridges, Mangoes and Landmarks erected by “Obeah” men” comes in at number 1 with 4, 150 views!
2 – Pon Di Road #6: The Couple’s Experience
In second place we have “Pon Di Road #6: The Couple’s Experience” with 3, 276 views. In this webisode we watched as the two shopped for some authentic Jamaican clothing and accessories in the Ocho Rios shopping village before snuggling up for some alone time on the beach and champagne service at the beautiful Couple’s Resort in Ocho Rios.
3 – Pon Di road #12 – It’s off to the Kool Runnings Water Park
Coming in at 3rd place is “Pon Di road #12 – It’s off to the Kool Runnings Water Park” with 2, 499 views. We all watched as Calee and Stephen soaked up the sun while enjoying the spills and thrills (and not to mention the food) of the Kool Runnings Water Park which boasts 10 amazing waterslides, a quarter mile of lazy river, Captain Mikie’s Coconut Island for the kids, great food and games galore.
4 – Pon Di Road #3 – How about a 3,280ft plunge through gorgeous rainforests in Ocho Rios, Jamaica?
With 2,257 views the 4th most viewed webisode is “Pon Di Road #3 – How about a 3,280ft plunge through gorgeous rainforests in Ocho Rios, Jamaica?” In this exciting installment the thrill-seeking pair took a ride on the the Sky Explorer at Mystic Mountain in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. Gliding through a rainforest canopy (while overlooking the ocean) on a chairlift all the way to the top station for spectacular panoramic views of the coast and several educational displays depicting Jamaica’s rich history and culture (from the buccaneers, to Usain Bolt). How’d they get down? Well it was only a 3,280ft plunge down through the rainforest to the bottom in a bobsled! Who says you need snow?
5 – Pon Di Road #4: Eating at Evita’s
Coming in at 5th place with 1,731 views is “Pon Di Road #4: Eating at Evita’s“. It was food, food and more food at “the best little pasta house in Jamaica” Evita’s Restaurant in Ocho Rios. Where you can get your fill of a fusion of Jamaican and Italian cuisine while overlooking Ocho Rios and the Caribbean Sea. Calee and Stephen sat at the “honeymooners table” and spoke with Evita herself as she revealed the restaurant’s history and a couple of her trade secrets too.
6 – Pon Di Road #5: Dunn’s River
Up next in 6th place with 1,579 views is “Pon Di Road #5: Dunn’s River“. A truly outstanding treasure offering 600 feet of climbing pleasure for thousands of visitors and locals every year, Dunn’s River Falls in Ocho Rios is arguably Jamaica’s most popular and famous attraction and it’s fun for the whole family! Before braving the falls Calee and Stephen interacted with the colourful and friendly locals while sampling and purchasing some personalized, authentic and distinctively Jamaican wood crafts and souvenirs just outside the entrance.
7 – Pon Di Road #9 Scotchies
Coming in at #7 with 1, 375 views is “Pon Di Road #9 Scotchies“. One of the best foods to eat in Jamaica, hands down, is Jerk pork and one of the best places to sample Jerk pork is Scotchies Jerk Centre. Not to worry though, there are also delicious fish and chicken dishes available for those who are not of the pork persuasion. We watched as Calee and Stephen ate to their heart’s content before heading on to Breezes Hotel in Trelawny for some mini golf and frolicking on the beach.
8 – Pon Di Road #11 – Shopping on Montego Bay’s Hip Strip
In the #8 position, with 1,319 views is “Pon Di Road #11 – Shopping on Montego Bay’s Hip Strip“. In this webisode we watched as Calee and Stephen shopped on Montego Bay’s “Hip Strip”, home to some famous spots like Doctor’s Cave Beach, Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville, The Brewery, Aqua Sol Theme Park, the Blue Beat jazz lounge, the Coral Cliff Gaming Lounge and a host of great restaurants all set against a beautiful white-sand beach.
9 – Pon Di Road #7 – Pon’ Di River
Coming in at # 9 with 1, 318 views is “Pon Di Road #7 – Pon’ Di River“. In this installment Calee and Stephen took us take us lazy river rafting (in the rain!) on the cool and refreshing waters of the White River in Ocho Rios. Then it was time for some fine Irish dining at The Irish Rover Pub in Drax Hall and an interesting chat with the restaurant’s owners.
10 – Pon Di Road #13 – Stephen and Calee jump off the cliff at Rick’s Cafe in Negril
Finally, we’ve come to the 10th most viewed Pon Di Road webisode. With 1, 305 views it is “Pon Di Road #13 – Stephen and Calee jump off the cliff at Rick’s Cafe in Negril“. Rick’s Cafe in Negril is famous for its great food, its unrivaled view of the sunset and above all it’s cliff diving. You can either watch the professional cliff jumping displays or participate yourself if you’re feeling the daredevil spirit. Countless visitors and locals have jumped or dived from the cliff and into the crystalline water below. The highest platform jump is 35 feet and ensures the thrill of a lifetime, though some choose to jump from even higher points from tree limbs. We enjoyed watching Calee and Stephen muster up the courage to make the jump.
It has been a wild an exciting journey and we feel lucky to have been a part of it every step of the way. We look forward to seeing these two at it again soon because despite all they’ve shown us there’s still so much more to do, see and taste in the deceptively tiny island of Jamaica.
