Event Update: Jamaica’s Running Calendar

Events: Reggae Sumfest 2012

Sizzling performances from the world’s top reggae, dancehall and R&B acts came together to create a memorable Reggae Sumfest for 2012. Summerfest Promotions took Reggae Sumfest to even higher heights from July 15-21, 2012 as they celebrated 20 years of the ‘greatest reggae show on earth’. Events: Bob Marley Documentary- “Marley” Premiere Locations

The highly anticipated documentary on the life, music and legacy of reggae superstar Bob Marley will make its debut this week. The film, directed by Kevin MacDonald, will be showcased in a special preview screening on April 19, 2012 in Kingston at the Emancipation Park at 8pm.

The official release of the film in theatres, on demand and on Facebook takes place the following day, April 20, 2012. You won’t want to miss “Marley”, which features rare footage, performances and interviews of the legend. Events: JaRIA’s “Reggae Nights” at Emancipation Park, Jamaica (Week 2)

In 2008 Jamaica’s then Governor General, Sir Kenneth Hall officially declared February Reggae Month. Since 2010 the Jamaica Reggae Industry Association (JaRIA) has been coordinating activities to celebrate our unique genre of music throughout the month.

This year JaRIA’s signature event ‘Reggae Nights’ is being held at the Emancipation Park in the capital Kingston. The weekly Wednesday events will dramatically chronicle the movement of reggae through a series of five live concerts featuring drumming, folk, mento, jazz, classical, dancehall and alternative. The first in the series of Wednesday Reggae Nights featured Classical, Jazz, Mento and Ska and showcased acts such as the Edna Manley College Orchestra, Pimento Players, Jamaica Symphony Orchestra, Gilzene and the Blue Light Mento Band, Jamarokaz, Maurice Gordon Quartet, Yaad Beat, Samuele Vivian, NRI Workshop and The Jolly Boys.

Events: Caribbean Yoga Conference 2012

Events: Rebel Salute 2012

Event Update: The Jamaica Tourist Board Culinary Bloggers Meetup, 2011

Jamaicans are unique in their love affair with food. The island’s range of cuisine is vast enough to satisfy just about any palate. In any given eatery one may find classic Jamaican dishes like jerk chicken or escovitched fish on the menu and there’s always a rum cocktail waiting for you.

From October 5-9, 2011 The Jamaica Tourist Board invited 6 Culinary Bloggers from around the world to explore Jamaica’s assortment of tantalizing treats. The journey began just outside of Jamaica’s capital, Kingston with dinner at one of the most popular seafood spots for locals (particularly on a Sunday afternoon) Prendy’s on the Beach. Here the bloggers enjoyed everything from Fried fish, Brown stew fish, Steamed fish and Salad to Garlic shrimp, Spicy shrimp, Curried shrimp and Curried conch.
