Vacationers have been flocking to the sunny Caribbean shores of Jamaica in search of warm temperatures and even warmer hospitality for decades. We weren’t surprised when Canada’s leading online travel agency, Flight Network, named us one of the top 27 winter sun destinations in the world for 2017. However, we were honored that they found Jamaica, through their months of nonstop travel and research, to be one of the best destinations for enjoying an affordable winter vacation that’s packed with culture, adventure and plenty of sunshine.
Many North Americans are enduring the frigid temperatures and snowfall of the heart of winter as we speak, and these are four reasons why Flight Network and all of us here at Island Buzz think you should pack your bags for our slice of paradise today.
1. It’s Even Cheaper Than Last Year
Jamaica has always been a budget-friendly travel destination, but for travelers from the United States and Canada, this year is even more affordable than last. The Flight Network travel experts discovered that, due to strong Canadian and U.S., currencies and lower airfares, a vacation to Jamaica is now 25-percent cheaper than last year. On average, visitors will save $454 on this year’s escape versus last year’s.
2. There’s So Much More Than Resorts
Jamaica is home to some of the top resorts in the world, but all-inclusive accommodation options and infinity pools aren’t all you’ll find on the island. From the cooler air, sweeping views and world-renowned hiking trails of Blue Mountains National Park to Reach Falls, hundreds of bird species and the legendary Blue Lagoon, visitors can easily spend an entire vacation discovering our island’s natural wonders.
3. You Won’t Forget the People You Meet
As much as Jamaica is known for its pristine beaches and turquoise Caribbean waters, it’s known for the warm-hearted people who call the island home. The laid-back vibes are infectious, whether you’re dining on homemade jerk chicken in Boston (just 20 minutes from Port Antonio), dancing to reggae beats all night long or learning about the traditional healing arts of the Rastafarians. Culture and good vibes can be found on every corner of the island, and you’re guaranteed to leave with far more friends than when you arrived.
4. You Can Pretend It’s Summer
Summer is a year-round season in Jamaica, which means you can escape the cold of Toronto in February and throw on your flip flops as soon as you arrive. The average temperature on the island is 66 degrees to 99 degrees, and the Caribbean Sea is that ideal mix of warm and refreshing. But you don’t have to be a traveler that loves the heat, because the tranquil Blue Mountains always offer temperatures that are several degrees cooler than those at the beach.
